Best Homemade Glass Cleaner for a Streak-Free Shine

Commercial glass cleaners can be full of toxic chemicals—some can cause immediate skin and respiratory irritations, chemical burns, or watery eyes, while others may cause long-term effects that haven’t been fully studied.

The worst part is that cleaning products are not required to list all of the chemicals on their packages, so who knows what harmful active ingredient might be used in a particular window cleaner. For this reason, I prefer to mix my own cleaning solution, where I know the complete list of ingredients.

Homemade Class Cleaner Recipe

My favorite method of cleaning all those marks is to make a vinegar and water solution in a spray bottle. Simply mix 1:1 water to vinegar and spray onto glass, and wipe away with newspaper or packing paper (this type of papers is the secret sauce for a streak-free clean—and a great way to reduce, reuse, recycle)

Supplies Needed:

What’s the Hack?

Ditch the rags or paper towels that can leave streaks and fibers behind, and instead reuse the packing paper from your packages and deliveries. You can also use old newspapers, but those may leave some ink on your fingers.

Do you hate the smell of vinegar? You can add a few drops of lemon essential oil to the water and vinegar mixture to counteract the vinegar scent.

Watch how easy it is to make your own eco-friendly and lung-healthy glass cleaner.
