One Room Challenge: Little Girl’s Vintage French Inspired Room

This is the room that love and a whole lot of DIY projects created for the @oneroomchallenge by @betterhomesandgardens

My daughter had requested a pink room for quite some time, but I wasn’t exactly sure what direction this room was going to take. I decided to start by creating a moodboard around her existing bed and a tassel chandelier that I had been wanting to make for quite some time. From there, I accessorized with a pair of beautiful pink pillows made from vintage turkish rugs that I had bought from WornAndWoodInteriors.

My instagram community was very helpful in choosing their favorite from the two moodboards I created. They helped push me out of my comfort zone, and encouraged me to go with more pink (and boy, is it ever pink!).

It’s been so fun focusing on this little room for my daughter. I recently took a #lovelanguages test which said that “acts of service” and “quality time” are my two top love languages. I’d say this project definitely let me express and show my love for my daughter in ways I know best.

Wall Mural instead of Wall Paper

Instead of using the expensive Parisian wallpaper that I found online, I set out to draw a similar scene and focused on the restaurants of old Quebec City, a French Canadian city that I’ve been to many many times. If drawing and painting a mural is not your thing, this wallpaper would work very well in any kid’s Parisian inspired room.

I did a quick hand drawing of the scene and used my favorite portable projector to get it onto the wall.

From painting that mural, to hand wrapping a gazillion tassels for the chandelier, to picking just the right vintage pieces for this room, I was able to try new things and learn so much.

If you’re wondering where I found some of the pieces for her room, here is a list for you, let me know if I forgot to list anything for you.
