Our latest investment property is a late 1950’s midcentury modern bungalow that had great bones, but was in major need of a facelift.

I decided to start with the exterior and give the house some curb appeal.

We first started by taking care of the overgrown front yard, and changing out the house number to one that I made out of ikea shelves and house numbers. I also changed out the front light to a mid-century type of down light, and instantly the home had a brand new feel.

Starting with Mock-Ups

I always like to make a few mock-ups before diving into any project, and considered changing out the front door, and and the light post.

Unfortunately the door seems to have been a custom made door, and budget constrains led me to simply paint the front door.

Next up on the list, was the dated, red wrought iron railing. My husband used the multitool to cut the iron right at the base.

Painting the garage seemed like a big undertaking with two kids and a looming deadline, so we happily agreed to hire a professional to paint it the same color as the front door. Lucky for us, he also agreed to paint the planter, the lightpost, and the mailbox at the same time too.
